On a Cancellation Law for Monounary Algebras

In this paper we investigate the validity of a cancellation law for some classes of monounary algebras.

Quasi-Equational Logic for Partial Algebras

In the line of introducing a manageable model theoretic approach to partial algebras, here such classes of partial algebras are to be considered in which free algebras still exist (in a categorical language: which are epireflective). This note is to be understood as one among others introducing this kind of model theory (in another one, see [4], varieties of partial algebras are considered). We...

Incidence Algebras as Algebras of Endomorphisms

Vx = {yeP:xSy} is the principal filter generated by x. The filters on P are easily seen to be the open sets for a topology on P, and the increasing maps from P to another locally finite partially ordered set Q are precisely the continuous functions from P to Q [5]. For each filter V on P, let M(P9 V\ or simply M(V) when reference to P is understood, denote the free abelian group on V. For filte...

Riesz endomorphisms of Banach algebras

Let B be a unital commutative semi-simple Banach algebra. We study endomorphisms of B which are simultaneously Riesz operators. Clearly compact and power compact endomorphisms are Riesz. Several general theorems about Riesz endomorphisms are proved, and these results are then applied to the question of when Riesz endomorphisms of certain algebras are necessarily power compact.

Natural Endomorphisms of Shuffle Algebras

Shuffles have a long history, starting with the probabilistic study of card shufflings in the first part of the 20th century by Borel, Hadamard, Poincaré and others. Their theory was revived in the 50’s, for various reasons. In topology, the combinatorics of (non commutative) shuffle products was the key to the definition of topological products such as the ones existing on cochain algebras and...
